Lesson 12: Pam

I had the true pleasure of interviewing Pam Temcharoen. Temchareon has an interesting perspective to bring to the table being that she is an international student from Thailand. Since meeting Pam through our mutual major of Communications, I have known her to be extremely intelligent and outgoing. In addition, Temchareon is a go-getter and knows exactly what she wants.  Temchareon is graduating in June 2023 with a degree in Communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in marketing as well as global studies.

Since attending college at Drexel University, she feels that most of the things that she has learned in college are things that she already knew but her skills have been enhanced. Temchareon narrows down the most important lessons she has learned in college to be, “the importance of asking questions because it is better to be willing to learn and be proactive than to just sit in silence forever” and “how to carry myself because I realized how important it was to not be a pushover and if I wanted something I had to achieve it myself.” Temchareon also revealed that she learned that,“the energy that you give is the energy that you will receive.” I think Temchareon makes a very important point by discussing the fact that it is important to carry yourself in different ways in the various settings we are faced with every day.

“The energy that you give is the energy that you will receive”

— Pam Temchareon

I posed Temchareon with the question whether she has learned more inside or outside of the classroom. She states that, “I learned more outside of the classroom than inside because I have made opportunities for myself and through experiences I gained outside of the classroom. As mentioned before, class has helped me hone the skills I already knew I had and to learn how to utilize it in different situations. But, it was up to me to actually use them.” Temchareon is emphasizing that half of the battle is applying and working for the experiences in front of you. She brings up a valid point by highlighting the fact that even if you have the skills and experiences, not everything in life will be handed to you.

Temchareon and I also discussed the best advice she would give an individual entering this chapter of their life. I absolutely love Temchareon’s advice. She says, “the only things in life that can upset you are regrets and high expectations.”  Temchareon believes this advice is important because if you stick by this then you are reminded that life experiences end up being valuable lessons. Temchareon also says, “There is no harm, no foul, in trying new things and I think it is very important to spend your freshman year making as many experiences as you can. Join a bunch of clubs, go out every day, who cares!”
